MISSION STATEMENT

The Poughkeepsie Community SDA School exists to provide educational services that allow all children to experience the love of Jesus Christ, academic success, and become life-long learners and contributing members in our society.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Poughkeepsie Community SDA School is operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide a spiritually oriented education for children. A belief in the existence of the Creator God is fundamental in the philosophy of Seventh-day Adventist schools. We respect His divine authority and recognize His intervention in human affairs. We believe that true education develops the spiritual, mental, and physical powers of each student; preparing them for the joy of service in this life and for the higher joy of service in the life to come. To achieve this goal, we encourage each student to:

  • develop a personal relationship with God and his fellow men as stated in Matthew 25:37-39
  • master the basic academic skills
  • value labor, physical and mental
  • cultivate physical fitness, mental ability, and moral purity as the blessing God intended

Poughkeepsie Community SDA School has been operating in harmony with the guidance and direction of the Office of Education, Greater New York Conference, in the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  • To lead each child to develop his or her spiritual, physical and mental powers in harmony with Seventh-day Adventist church standards
  • To prepare each child for citizenship on earth and for greater citizenship in the earth made new
  • To help students realize that there is dignity in labor through manual skills
  • To promote the development of leadership, personal and social relationships, also habits of refinement and culture
  • To encourage the development of originality of ideas, creative thinking and intellectual excellence within the focus of Christian Education.
